Thandi Mzileni-Mgqamqo, the acting principal of Masiphumelele High School, turned the first sod over this week on what will become an incredible sporting facility. What a moment for her, the Judith Neilson Foundation, MasiSports and the school – and also for the Atlas Foundation, which manages rugby at the high school.
By mid-July, the school will have a 60 x 30 state-of-the-art Astro soccer/rugby field, three cricket nets, a half-size netball practice court and have both netball courts fully refurbished. The Astro field will be constructed to the IRB standard of senior first-division specifications. World Class!
Sport is gathering pace and the educator coaches and skills coaches are fully operational in coaching their chosen sporting codes. Last week, the four high school netball teams beat Norman Henshilwood’s opposition in inter-school league fixtures and this week their two soccer teams had success against Inga Ngcupe Soccer High School. Six high school educators will soon be enrolled in the chess level one and two chess courses.
Facilities drive energy, excitement and, importantly, opportunity.
Thank you,
Judith Neilson.
Bless you!
