What a day with the provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

Ricardo Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

We were delighted to host the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie during his visit to Masiphumelele and both schools recently. He and his entourage had a busy time meeting the principals, head coaches, sports coaches, and sports kids at practice at Ukhanvo Primary and Masi High. Chess was at full blast, art featured, and the choir welcomed us at the High School. The Minister also engaged with the Masicorp Maths lab.

It was full on, and Ricardo Mackenzie was equal to the task, absorbed with all stakeholders, asking piercing questions, and responding so positively. It was wonderful to know that he and the Minister of Education, David Maynier, have worked to get PT and after-school sport and cultural activities back on the map. Play, games, and team sports at the child and teenager level are essential for growth, sociability, problem-solving, leadership, and self-regulation. This leads to better academic results. We are so delighted with the heightened interest in after-school activities. That is what MasiSports does.

Thank you for your positive approach to what we do. The energetic sports kids, art and chess students and choir show what is possible with top principals and staff with the type of support MasiSports gives.

We look forward to collaborating within your new programme, which is designed to boost after-school sport and cultural activities. We hope too that it will be possible for you to assist our lighthouse approach, planned to adapt our model in any underprivileged school in the Western Cape.

Thank you for your visit, Ricardo.
