The evening brought together long-time supporters, partners, and friends of Masisports+—a vibrant reminder of the powerful collective that has made this journey possible. Masisports+ has never been a solo endeavor—it has always thrived because of the people behind it: the coaches, schools, families, volunteers, and organizations that have stood beside it through every challenge and triumph.

MasiSports+ Chief Programs Officer, Marvin Williams, shared his journey and how the power of positive influence and mentorship was instrumental in his development.
The highlight of the evening came through a compelling discussion facilitated by MasiSports+ Founder, Vince van dr Bijl with Tom Dawson-Squibb and Sipho Dyonasse, both of whom played influential roles enroute to UCT’s triumphant Varsity Cup campaign in 2025. Their words resonated deeply, weaving together themes of leadership, resilience, and the power of connection. Tom and Sipho stressed the importance of being competitive, keeping it real, having strong connections, and having fun. What a sports recipe. Tom spoke of the long game of leadership—not just the moments under the lights, but the quiet decisions made in practice sessions, the unseen encouragement, and the tough conversations that help teams evolve.
Sipho followed with a personal reflection on triumph against the odds, emphasizing how mentorship, discipline, and belief in young talent are cornerstones of sustainable success. All the coaches and staff/coaches of Masi were inspired by one ‘their own from Masi’ – a new role model in fact, for us all.
Their stories, while rooted in elite sport, drew striking parallels to the work Masisports+ does at the grassroots level: nurturing not just athletes, but confident, capable leaders of tomorrow
