Two marvellous coaches, educator Zama Maqwathhini and coach “Quintin” Karl Samushonga have reignited chess in a big way.

More than 30 children are regular attendees at the daily practices and the chess experiences have extended past inter-school fixtures. Every Friday Zama takes four different chess players to the Fish Hoek Chess Club at the Fish Hoek Library. This not only exposes them to a different chess learning environment but engages them with chess players from the South Peninsula. Friendships are being formed as well – social cohesion at work.

Ukhanyo Primary is privileged to have educators and coaches who go far beyond their normal duties and are so dedicated to their learners and school.

The leadership of Ukhanyo principal Michael Tyhali ensures that every coach and educator understands the importance of setting an example to others and being a genuine leader.

Ukhanyo shines in and outside the classroom. Holistic education gives learners the capability to lead full, confident lives. Take a bow, Ukhanyo.
