Growing Riders, Growing Pathways

There’s something special about seeing our riders roll out together — helmets strapped on, bikes lined up, energy high and ready for the road.

Our MasiSports+ Cycling programme now has 14 committed riders from both Ukhanyo Primary and Masiphumelele High School — 11 boys and 3 girls who are showing up consistently and growing stronger each week.

Cycling isn’t easy. It demands stamina, focus, and mental toughness. But that’s exactly why it matters. Every hill climbed, and every kilometre completed builds resilience, discipline, and confidence — lessons that carry far beyond sport.

Cycling continues to grow across South Africa, from grassroots participation to major events like the Cape Town Cycle Tour. However, access to the sport is often limited by the high cost of bicycles, safety gear, and maintenance — barriers that many young people face. “I’ve seen how sport can change a young person’s life. When these riders get on the road, they’re not just training — they’re building belief & confidence. That lesson goes way beyond cycling.”Sidney, Cycling Coach MasiSports+

We are incredibly grateful to Jacana Development Foundation for stepping in with a clear vision to equip our riders and grow our cycling support team. Their investment means our young cyclists now have the tools and backing they need to train safely, consistently, and with confidence — opening the road to greater opportunity.

We are also happy that Mihle Mgqibelo, who interned in our NYS programme from August 2025 to January 2026, is now our Assistant Cycling Coach. He understands the journey, having experienced it himself, and knows how sport can impact a young person’s life. His leadership helps us encourage more youth, especially girls, to join.

While our cycling group is still growing, we have strong momentum. With dedicated riders, new leadership, and partners supporting our youth, MasiSports+ Cycling is creating a lasting program, both on and off the road.

Thank you to the Jacana Development Foundation for for their generosity!
