This Youth Month, MasiSports+ Asks: Could a Holistic Education Model Be the Key to Uplifting South African Youth?
In South Africa, where inequality and limited access to quality education continue to affect young people’s futures, Masisports+ believes that part of the transformation journey lies beyond the classroom.
Their holistic education model — blending sports, life skills, arts, culture, and empowerment — aims to help learners grow into confident, capable, and community-minded individuals.
A Whole-Person Approach to Learning
MasiSports+ goes beyond textbooks. The program weaves together academic support, sports, life skills, arts and culture, and leadership development to grow young people into confident, capable citizens. Importantly, it does this within schools, in partnership with Ukhanyo Primary and Masiphumelele High School, creating an ecosystem of impact & generational change.
Led by the Community, For the Community
One of the programme’s cornerstones is its team of dedicated coaches, most of whom are from Masiphumelele itself. Currently, eighteen role models offer more than just training—they provide mentorship, local relevance, and lived experience. Their presence shows young learners that leadership and opportunity are possible within their community.

Holistic Growth in Action
The Masisports+ model nurtures:
- Sports: Building discipline, teamwork, and resilience—while improving academic and behavioural outcomes.
- Life Skills: Teaching communication and problem-solving for success in life and work.
- Empowerment: Upskilling our coaches and learners for long-term sustainability.
- Arts & Culture: Encouraging creative expression.
- Food Gardens – Promoting nutrition, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning.
We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive.
