What an incredible weekend for chess in our community!
We are immensely proud of the Ukhanyo Primary School Chess Team for their outstanding performance at the Metro South Top Schools Chess Tournament, held at Heathfield High School on 25–26 July 2026.
A special congratulations goes to Savuzwa, our youngest player at just 7 years old, who delivered an impressive performance on Board 6, scoring 3 points from 6 games. We are equally proud of our talented Under-11 team, many of whom competed at this level for the very first time. Their courage, enthusiasm, and fighting spirit were truly inspiring and serve as a reminder that the future of Ukhanyo Primary School chess is bright.
There was more exciting news from our local chess community as the Masiphumelele High School Under-15 Boys Team successfully advanced to the Top Schools competition after an outstanding playoff campaign. The team secured victories against Bergvliet High School, Heathfield High School, and Wynberg High School, winning all the matches and takin top honors.
Meanwhile, the Masiphumelele High School Under-17 Girls Team also impressed at the Metro South Championship Schools Competition, battling hard to secure silver medals and a well-deserved second-place finish. The Under-15 mixed team continued their excellent form, winning all three of their opening matches and positioning themselves strongly for the remainder of the tournament.
These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our learners, coaches, teachers, and supportive parents who continue to invest their time and energy into developing young minds through chess. Beyond the medals and trophies, our players have shown leadership, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities that will serve them well both on and off the chessboard.
