Sport at Masi High reaches new heights

One of Masi High’s rugby teams in action against Westerford

A young group of educators led by Mr Mlandu and Ms Nongoko have led the resurgence of sport at Masi High School.

The netball teams playing in the inter-schools league have won all their matches against Sibelius, Norman Hensilwood and Hout Bay high schools. After two years of limited sport the coaches and players are having a field day. They have played with gusto, skill and have been impeccably graceful in victory. The combined match scores for each side have been: under-14: 44-18; under-16: 55-8 and under-19: 46-6. They are back in the saddle under the guidance of MasiSports coaches Pamella ‘Phila’ Dlulane and Nceba Jonas.

Masi High’s netball players

For the first time ever, Masiphumelele High School has fielded two rugby teams in the WP School Rugby Fixture League. This is a momentous milestone and a proud achievement after years of dedicated coaching from the Atlas Foundation coaches, Fundile Frank Charlie, Xolani Mahlulox and Ethan Levandall, who have revitalised rugby at both Masi & Ocean View High Schools. The U16 and U19 have played three matches and their match play grows stronger and more impactful each time! Thanks to the Atlas Foundation for their dedicated support. This is wonderful news.

High School soccer plays regular friendly matches as there is no official soccer league. Their last under-15 and under-17 matches were against Plumstead HS away. One win for each school. MasiSports’ Qhamane ‘Star’ Tshambu coaches both high and primary schools.

MasiSports cycling, cricket and chess HS teams practice at Ukhanyo Primary three times a week.

Thank you all coaches and educators involved. It is wonderful that the dedicated effort of rugby focused Atlas Foundation is having such success.
