Teacher and coach Kwanele Lunga reports back:
Eleven schools took part in the most recent Zonal athletics meeting on 10 February: Fish Hoek, Sunvalley, Kommijtie, Generations, Kleinberg, Simon’s Town, Jupiter, Bay, Paul Greyling, Reddam and Ukhanyo.
We had a team of 45 athletes who took part in sprints, long distances, shot put and also registered a few to try out long jump even though we hadn’t really practised it.
Our team performed extremely well. Ten athletes are going through to the next round which is a huge achievement considering the fact that other schools only have only a few going through. The only school that has more than us is Fish Hoek (they took part in all the events including hurdles).
We had a number of athletes who qualified for more than one event:
Siyabuswa Siyo u13B –1500m, 800m and 200m.
Simekuhle Keteyiu10B – 80m and 100m
Imyoli Ndabambi u11G –1200m and 150m
Beverley Kanyongo u13B – 1500m and 800m
The district champs will be held on the 22nd of Feb at a venue yet to be confirmed.
