Workshops equip coaches with vital skills

MasiSports has enjoyed a remarkable year in 2024, marked by significant achievements and impactful initiatives. The organisation undertook two major projects aimed at creating research impact reports. These reports are intended to enhance the organisation’s value offering not only in sports, life skills, and education but also through arts and cultural (non-sport) experiences for learners at Ukhanyo Primary School and Masiphumelele High School.

Both schools are in the heart of the Masiphumelele community, which is central to MasiSports’ mission of fostering growth and development among learners.

“At the forefront of these initiatives are our Sports Coaches who are the key implementers of our sports, arts, cultural & life skills programmes for the learners they work with. We need to ensure that they are aware and equipped with the skills to manage the environments they work in,”says MasiSports Chief Operations Officer Althea Farmer.

During the first week of the 2025 school term, coaches participated in various training workshops that focused on Session Planning, Human Resources, Monitoring & Evaluation, Life Skills in partnership with Cool Play, and Self Mastery – Positive Intelligence through our collaboration with Head Strong Coaching.

Here is some feedback from our coaches:

“The workshops at the beginning of the term truly offered me invaluable skills in designing sports frameworks, planning sessions, and enhancing team communication. The insights gained from the Human Resources session were particularly enlightening; they helped me navigate workplace processes with newfound confidence. We also delved into crucial life skills like goal setting and organisation, which I believe are essential for my journey as a coach. Throughout these weeks, it became clear how vital coach development is in parallel with player training, and I feel grateful for the growth opportunities I’ve encountered.” – Teddy Nyali, MasiSports Head Coach Masi High

“The HR workshop was truly enlightening, providing valuable insights into various roles and South African Labour regulations. I appreciated the positive engagement from the coaches, which made the experience even more enriching. During the Monitoring & Evaluation session, the facilitator took the time to clarify essential components, thoughtfully guiding us on our next steps. I’m genuinely looking forward to the next workshop and the opportunity to learn even more together.” – Feziwe Payi, MasiSports Netball Coach & MEL Administrator
